In January 2009, Archetype Group participated in the Hoan Kiem Lake and surrounding areas planning competition, organised by Hanoi People’s Committee.
The aim of the competition was to find the best planning architectural concept and solution for preserving, developing and managing construction of the Hoan Kiem Lake area, in particular for the occasion of Hanoi’s 1000th anniversary in 2010.
Archetype Group designed and submitted a master plan 1/1000, a general model 1/500 and a detailed plan for parts and architectural buildings. Our design was successful in progressing through to the 2nd round.
Archetype Group designed several unique features for the competition including the ‘wave’ and a temporary landmark, the ‘Millennium Tower’. The wave was designed to protect against the sun and rain and to become a lantern at night.
The tower was designed to provide space for exhibitions outlining the history of Hanoi by day and by night to represent a huge lantern. The top of the tower is a platform, which offers views connecting the old town of Hanoi in the north and the Hoan Kiem Lake in the south.
