The Siem Reap International Airport beautifully reflects the recent traditional Khmer architecture. The airport has long sweeping elevations and galleries that play with its Angkorean heritage. A lush central garden and smaller internal gardens portray friendliness, an openness rarely seen in modern airports due to today’s strict security regulations. A glistering wall of glass blocks turns into a shadow theater while passengers await their luggage. Smooth, pre-cast concrete panels contrast with raw dark painted steel profiles and columns against the modern interpretations of ancient gates that are vivid and ever present elements. The huge punched window openings provide seating possibilities as well as relaxing views to water features and flourishing greenery.
