The master-plan was designed to LEED® standards and the first in Kazakhstan. LEED requires that the master plan must comply with several sustainable design features, such as an integrated public transport system, retention of natural wildlife, wetland conservation, flood plain avoidance, pedestrian zones, energy & water efficiency and prevention measures for construction pollution. The area designated for this Eco-city is 100ha and the city itself will comprise low- and mid-rise residential buildings, offices, retail, education, government — essentially all of the infrastructure required for a self-contained community.
