Behind the Design of e.town 6: An Interview with Jean-François Chevance.

The Design Story of a Modern, Sustainable Office Success

Archetype Group and REE Corporation have collaborated to deliver e.town 6, a top-notch office building in Ho Chi Minh City. Spanning 79,779 sqm, this LEED Platinum-certified structure blends sustainability, functionality, and innovation, setting new benchmarks for workplace architecture.

Jean-François Chevance (Jeff), Group Director of Design at Archetype Group, shares the vision and thought process behind every aspect of this remarkable design.

The partnership between Archetype Group and REE Corporation spans over two decades, starting with the REE Tower, one of our first joint projects. Over the years, this collaboration has grown, with REE Corporation contributing not just as a manufacturer but as a designer and contractor for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.

Jeff emphasizes that the success of e.town 6 was made possible by the strong collaboration between both teams, with regular coordination meetings and a shared model approach.

He credits Madame Thanh, Chairwoman of REE Corporation, for fostering an innovative environment that made the project a true success.

  • Facing challenges, enhancing connectivity at e.town 6.

Situated on a long, narrow plot, e.town 6 faced significant architectural challenges. The design team focused on improving the space while addressing connectivity issues, ensuring the building’s functionality and usability.

To tackle these challenges, this design features a fully opened ground floor, creating a dynamic hub that enhances circulation and engagement.

“REE Corporation’s trust and the creative freedom they granted us allowed our design team to prioritize user experience over maximizing profitability,” said Jeff. “This approach enabled us to develop innovative solutions that truly enhance the e.town 6 project.”

  • Core design elements of e.town 6

Thanks to Jeff’s guidance, e.town 6 turned architectural challenges into creative solutions, resulting in design features that truly elevate the building.

– Big Atrium: The central atrium of e.town 6 serves as the heart of the building, connecting key areas like the lift lobbies and food court. Its open design ensures natural ventilation and a fresh atmosphere, while the integration of greenery and natural light brings a touch of nature, reflecting the site’s original forest.

– Sunken Garden: The introduction of a sunken garden redefines the basement food court, creatively overcoming the challenge of limited natural light. By integrating natural light and offering an open connection to the garden, this design innovation transforms the space, creating a fresh atmosphere that enhances the dining experience.

– Facade: The facade of e.town 6, facing the streets, was designed to stand out within the e.town campus. While maintaining a conventional office building structure, the glass panels were subtly tilted, creating an illusion of movement as reflections from the sky and neighboring buildings are dispersed, giving the facade a distinct appearance.

– Sustainability in Design: As a LEED Platinum-certified building, e.town 6 prioritizes sustainability with energy-efficient systems, integrated greenery, and eco-conscious materials, setting a benchmark for environmentally responsible office design.
