Kicking off our series is Iliana Martseniak, Project Manager at Archetype Thailand.
With extensive experience in leading design development and overseeing construction management, Iliana plays a pivotal role in delivering high-quality projects. In a traditionally male-dominated industry, she has earned recognition for her resilience, strategic leadership and ability to navigate complex challenges with confidence.
We spoke with Iliana about her journey, the challenges she has faced, and her advice for aspiring women in the industry.
- How do you feel being a woman working at Archetype Group?
“Being a Project Manager at Archetype Group has been both challenging and rewarding. Leading design development and supervising construction demand strong decision-making and leadership skills. While the industry is historically male-dominated, I’ve always felt that my expertise and contributions are valued. The support of the Archetype team has played a huge role in my journey, and I take pride in showing that competence knows no gender.”
- Can you share more about your work as a woman in the construction industry?
“My role involves managing design projects, collaborating with international partners, and overseeing construction. From problem-solving to client negotiations, every day presents new challenges. In this field, resilience and confidence are essential, and I believe that women bring valuable perspectives to project management—helping to foster collaboration and efficiency.”
- What advice would you give to other women considering a career at Archetype Group?
“Believe in your abilities and take on challenges with confidence. Developing strong communication and leadership skills is key. Be assertive, prove your expertise through consistent performance, and never hesitate to step into leadership roles. There are many opportunities for women in this industry, and by staying adaptable and proactive, you can thrive and make a lasting impact.”

Being a woman at Archetype Group has been a rewarding experience. Though construction is often seen as male-dominated, I have always felt valued and supported. Working with diverse colleagues, learning from different perspectives, and contributing to team growth makes me proud to be part of this industry.
- How does Archetype’s inclusive approach help women advance in their careers?
What I appreciate most is that Archetype focuses on skills, dedication, and teamwork rather than gender. It’s inspiring to see more women stepping into this field, and I’m grateful to be part of a company that encourages growth and inclusivity.

- Can you share more about your work as a woman in the construction industry?
Working as a woman in the construction industry has been both challenging and incredibly rewarding. With the Civil Engineering background and over 20 years’ experience in the construction Industry I do enjoy and love to fly in industry.
One thing I’m particularly proud of is being able to mentor other young women entering the field. I think visibility is important—when other women see someone like them succeeding in construction, it opens the door for more to follow.”

In a field where gender norms still shape many career path, Palani has stood firm, balancing the demands of leading teams while voicing practical concerns often overlooked in a male dominated environment.
- How do you feel being a woman working at Archetype Group?
Working in a dynamic and fast-paced industry like construction has been both rewarding and challenging. As a woman architect, I’ve had the opportunity to grow professionally while navigating a field that remains largely male dominated.
One of the key challenges has been team leadership. Earning respect in an environment where men still hold most roles requires a mix of confidence, technical knowledge, and strong communication. Practical barriers, such as the lack of gender-sensitive facilities on site, also highlight the need for greater inclusivity in infrastructure.
Exhibiting consistent expertise has helped me break stereotypes. By staying up to date with industry trends and standing firm in my decisions, I’ve been able to build credibility and trust with colleagues across different levels.
At Archetype Group, I feel supported in my development and am encouraged by the growing recognition of diverse talent. I take pride in mentoring others and contributing to a more inclusive construction sector where women can lead, thrive, and drive change.

In the spotlight this Friday is Ines Ben Chaabane, an architect from our Archetype Tunisia office. With more than 15 years of experience in the architecture and construction industry, Ines has built a career grounded in technical expertise, lifelong learning, and quiet resilience. - Can you share more about your work as a woman in the construction industry?
Starting 16 years ago, I faced the challenge of proving myself in a male dominated industry. Through respect, continuous learning, and initiative, I have grown confident that women do not need to justify their presence. They must assert their value through competence and collaboration.
Through years of persistence and dedication, I’ve demonstrated that women don’t need to justify their presence in construction and engineering. Instead, we can thrive by showing strong professional competence and interpersonal skills, making our contribution to the industry clear and impactful.
Building Progress: Vanessa de Melo’s Journey in Latin American Construction!
Although challenges remain in the construction industry, the increasing presence of women in leadership roles shows real progress. This evolution is empowering and essential. Introducing Vanessa de Melo, Project Manager at Archetype SPM, our venture between Archetype Group and SPM ENGENHARIA focused on Latin America.

“At Archetype, I am recognized for my skills and contributions. I’ve never felt that my gender limited my growth. Of course, being a woman or a minority can present challenges. There are moments when you must speak louder to be heard, but that should never stop you.”
