Archetype Group in Thailand: Twenty Years of Architecture, Engineering and Construction

Archetype Group has operated in Thailand since 2004. Its team of roughly 100 professionals has delivered more than 200 projects across real estate, hospitality and industry, offering architecture, engineering, and project, construction and cost management under one roof.

How Did Archetype Group Start in Thailand?

Archetype Group was founded in 2002 by a small team of French architects and engineers who set out to build a construction consultancy for Southeast Asia’s fast-growing markets. From that first office, the company expanded steadily across the region.

In 2004, Archetype Group opened its Thailand office on Koh Samui, staffed by around four people. That island outpost has grown into a company of roughly 100 professionals, a trajectory that mirrors Thailand’s own transformation over the past two decades.

What Services Does Archetype Thailand Offer?

Archetype Thailand is part of a global group that offers an integrated range of services:

This one-stop model lets the firm guide a project from concept through completion, whether the client needs a single discipline or a fully tailored, end-to-end solution.

Which Projects Has Archetype Group Delivered in Thailand?

In Thailand, Archetype Group’s portfolio combines hospitality and real estate landmarks with a growing list of industrial facilities. It reflects the depth of the local team and the backing of an international network.

Hospitality and real estate

The most recognised Thai projects include the Capella Hotel, named the world’s number one hotel in 2024, and the renovations of the Mandarin Oriental and Four Seasons hotels in Bangkok. The firm is also involved in the Aman Nai Lert project, expected to join the city’s award-winning venues.

Industrial facilities

The Ducati motorbike facility achieved LEED Gold certification. The result reflects the firm’s growing focus on sustainable industrial design and the trust of clients who often expand their partnership with Archetype across several countries and sectors, such as pharmaceuticals and agri-food.

Data centers

Archetype Thailand has recently strengthened its capabilities to serve the fast-growing demand for data centers. Its team of experts is currently working on two major projects in this sector.

Phuket

The company is active again in Phuket, working on projects such as Layan Verde, one of the island’s largest developments.

What Role Did Archetype Play in King Power MahaNakhon?

Archetype Group delivered project and construction management for King Power MahaNakhon, the 314-metre, 77-storey tower in Bangkok’s Silom business district. The project captures Archetype’s coming of age in Thailand.

The design concept

The tower is designed around a three-dimensional ribbon of architectural “pixels” spiraling around its full height, as if the smooth glass skin were unraveling to reveal the life inside. Cantilevered terraces and glass-box balconies blur the line between interior and exterior, a solution well suited to Bangkok’s tropical climate.

Turning the concept into a buildable structure

Translating this concept into a safe, code-compliant and buildable structure was a major technical undertaking. Archetype’s project and construction management helped turn an architecturally daring design into a functioning building.

Timeline and recognition

Construction began in 2011 and the tower opened in 2016. It briefly held the title of Thailand’s tallest building and is one of Southeast Asia’s most photographed landmarks.

For Archetype, MahaNakhon remains a reference project that shows the firm can deliver at the highest level of architectural ambition and complexity.

How Does Archetype Thailand Use Innovation in Design and Construction?

Innovation sits at the center of Archetype’s Thai operation. The turning point came in 2016, when the Continental Tires project became the firm’s first to fully embrace 3D design.

That shift opened the door to cloud-based design platforms, new generations of construction management software and, more recently, the integration of AI into everyday workflows. Staying at the leading edge of design and construction technology is treated as essential to remaining competitive and to delivering work that is smarter, faster and more efficient for clients.

Who Leads Archetype Thailand, and How Global Is the Group?

The Thai team

Archetype Thailand is led by its Managing Director, Marian Kusy. Its roughly 100 employees represent ten nationalities, pairing international expertise with local knowledge of regulations, culture and craft.

The global network

Archetype Group counts around 1,000 collaborators across 26 offices, delivering projects worldwide. The Thai team draws on specialist expertise from sister offices and contributes its own experience in hospitality, luxury real estate and industrial engineering back to the wider group.

What Does “Shaping a Sustainable Tomorrow” Mean for Archetype?

Sustainability sits alongside innovation as one of the company’s top priorities, in Thailand and across the group. Archetype has committed to reducing its carbon footprint and promoting greener practices throughout the construction sector, with the ambition of delivering entirely green-certified buildings within the coming years.

The tagline “Shaping a Sustainable Tomorrow” covers both the act of shaping buildings and cities and the responsibility of building in a way that protects future generations.

Archetype Thailand marked its 20th anniversary in 2024 with clients, partners and colleagues from across the group.
